What changes in defensive focus?

Hello,

We released probably the last big update this season.

We've updated the impact of defensive focus and the display of success events in the game. What does it change?

Impact of Updates

BasketPulse deflectionsIncreased importance of defensive tactics

In response to community feedback, we've slightly increased the impact of defensive focus on opponent's accuracy.

Depending on the chosen defensive focus, there will be greater chance of forcing the opponents to shoot from a bad situation, but the chances of defending in other areas will decrease.

For example, with an emphasis on defense against shooters, opponents are more likely to make 3-pointers from bad situations, but will find gaps under the basket more easily.

After the updates, it will be easier to control the amount of fouls players will have - players with a loose defense setting will foul less often.

We've also reduced the chance of fouling under the basket by emphasizing low post defense. That will allow more effective control of the low post players' foul trouble.

Basketpulse stealsLess lucky/unlucky events

From now on, lucky shots will only be displayed in the game chronology when the shooter's skill ratio and shot quality are both negative (and vice versa for unlucky shots).

For example, if a fatigued non-three-point shooter hits a three over a defender stuck to him, he is lucky. If the same shooter is not tired and throws a wide-open three-pointer - it will not be considered a lucky event.

Also, random events will no longer affect the accuracy of decisive shots at the end of the match.

More accurate free-throw shooting

Players' mid-range shooting skill is slowly increasing (average 5.8) and the average free throw accuracy in the previous version of the engine was 64.5%.

There is still potential to train the skill, but such accuracy is significantly behind the 78% accuracy in the Euroleague. As a result, we raised the base accuracy of free throws and in the test version of the engine, the accuracy of players with current skills reached 68.9%.

IMPORTANT. We want teams to get comfortable with the changes to long-term fatigue and the effect of long-term fatigue will not change in the coming season.

CHANGES IN THE GAME

-Bug fix: if the number of players in basketball school exceeds school's level (after trade or drafts) - the school level is automatically raised (at 07.00 on Wednesdays) and a higher fee is applied. If the team exceeds the maximum allowed number of students (30) in this way, a fine of 10.000 Eu is applied to club every week until the number of students reaches 30 or less;

-Bug fix: incorrect home-court advantage in national teams' tournaments.

CHANGES MADE IN THE TEST ENGINE

-A bit decreased chances to get a foul when using loose defense;
-A bit decreased chance to get a foul in the low post when using low post focus defense;
-Bug fix: offensive rebound after a blocked shot should not reset the shot clock;
-Bug fix: multiple events occurring in the same second after an inbound pass;
-Bug fix: wrong “close-range shots” statistics in the match summary page;
-A bit increased defense focus effect on avoiding creation of good shooting situations;
-Reduced the amount of fouls, created due to home arena;
-Give negative bonus when C is playing as PG (and vice-versa);
-Increased negative effect when player is playing in unfamiliar position (for example, PG is playing in SF/PF or C);
-Lucky shots will be counted only when the shot has a negative skill ratio and negative shooting quality (vice versa with unlucky shots);
-Increased effectiveness of full court press;
-No lucky/unlucky shots in the final attack;
-Fixed a bug when a player does not shoot after a pick and roll even when the tactics allow it;
-Free throws accuracy was a bit increased.

UPCOMING CHANGES IN THE TEST ENGINE

-Review impact of updates;
-Small bug fixes.

I don't have too much concern about unfamiliar position. Even in reality, the position is not highly related to what the players do. Like Curry as a PG still shoots like hell. Jokic as a C still has the most passes in Nuggests.

One of the biggest problem in BP is that position is highly related to what players do, and offense style does already nothing. Everytime a new joiner asked how to build Jokic in BP, I just told him hell no. Because C has only 10-15% ball possession while a PG always has 40%. Even without unfamiliar position penalty, your player with 12 offense skills still does minimum as a playmaker if he is not a PG

I guess what fanling3 wants to say is that, even if you have a Jokic (211 cms // 12-8-13/12-12-10/11-11-8/6-12-13/12) in your team you will not be able to make him play like he does in reality.

But also Curry and Jokic seem like proper examples. They are very special and both are one in a million, maybe even unique forever.
