Survey about the future of match engine

                                              

We would like to consult the community about the future of the game.

One of our goals is to make all skills and tactics useful. We should not have a single “best-way” to train players or some tactics that are better than the others. 

If you notice that some skill or tactic’s influence is too little or too high, please inform us about the issue instead of planning a long-term team without training certain skills. 

 

These are the big updates that we would like to have in the long-term future:

  1. Review OIQ influence. 

    • Players with bad OIQ should have less chances to be “at the right moment at the right place”, so they have less chances to be in a good shooting situation after a pass. 

    • Implement “Cuts”. Players without the ball but with good OIQ would try to get open and go towards the basket and this way “be at the right time in the right position”. 


  2. Review influence of “Dribbling”. 

    • Players without dribbling could be guarded from closer distance. 

    • Implement isolation for post players, where with the help of dribble they could try to create shooting opportunities. 
       

  3. Bigger bonus for defenders against single sided players. Few examples: 

    • If a player can only shoot three pointers - he can be guarded from closer distance;

    • If a player cannot dribble/pass, he could be pressed to force a turnover;

    • If a player cannot shoot from 3-point line, he can be defended from a further range preventing driving situations;

    • If a player does not shoot at all - his defender can help others. So creating good shooting situations should become more difficult.
       

  4. Smarter defender selection: 

    • Currently the players defend by position on the court. That sometimes leads to illogical situations. For example, when C plays in the SG position he will be defended by SG. It should be possible to control such situations by tactics.

    • Implement switching and going back to the main defender during the attack (after a screen/double or aggressive driving). 
       

  5. Re-write pick&roll situations:

    • In pick & roll situations defenders will decide how to defend based on the offensive player skillset and tactics;

    • Create separate event for pick&pop situations.
       

  6. New type of “set plays” - “mismatch”. Type of “set plays” where the team would try to create (or use the existing) miss-match situations.
     

  7. Zone defense (not for the entire match but for the moments when the team has problems in close range).
     

  8. Tactics page where strategy may be set for each of the opponents player, for example set your best defender to guard opposing team’s leader with a double defense.
     

  9. Team chemistry - the longer the players play together, the better they understand each other and know how to hide teammates’ weaknesses. 
     

  10. Special skills for coaches and players that sometimes can create advantages (disadvantages) on the court. For example, if a player has a special skill “All-around player” he will not have a disadvantage playing out of position. That would allow players like Jokič or Magic Johnson to be useful in the game despite their out-of-position height.
     

  11. Review the influence of each coach`s skill. The effect of each skill should be clear and visible in match events.
     

  12. Automatically give users a suggestion about every match - what went wrong and how to improve.

    • Quite often we see that users are making the same mistakes (tactical or in roster);

    • The game would give feedback for the user about every match (might be a premium feature) and advise how to improve.

 

It takes a number of seasons to train the players and we would like to give the community guidelines on what to expect in the future.

I think the advantage of tall players is a feature of the game and should be preserved. The probability of tall players appearing in the game is very small, so it is reasonable to have some advantages. It increases the differentiation of players so that everyone is not the same -- 91 S 51 d.
