In sports few players actually get the choice of when to retire. They are forced to leave because their skills/athleticism decrease due to wear and tear. They may not have been given the choice, I mean who would chose to retire at 27-28 when you are making 6 million a year but if your skills are not what they once were you get basically forced into retirement.
